Tokyo: Swollen 40 times in water
On the way back to the Asakusa subway station, we noticed this street vendor. The figures are supposed to swell up to 40 times in water, but then shrink down to their original size when dried. Among the figures are lobsters, crabs, frogs and… well, just take a close look at the full sized photo.
‘Nuff said.

Tokyo: The Giant Abacus
Well, today was my first full day in Japan and we spent the morning in Asakusa, where much of old Tokyo remains. Apart from visiting Sensoji Temple, we walked around the area and found this abacus shop with this great giant abacus outside. What’s particularly great about it is that it’s just like the one our family had growing up– black with orange beads shaped just like that.
Of course, ours was much smaller.
